Hello everyone,

Just wanted to update the blog before I got too tired to do so! This weekend Mackenzie [and a lot of Rim Rock members] have an OHSET meet. For those of you who don’t know what OHSET is, it’s a highschool club devoted to equestrian activities. In short terms, we call it OHSET. Our meet will start tomorrow [Friday] and end’s on Sunday. The District meets will be held in Redmond, in the expo center. Our state meet is in Central Point this year. Thank goodness schools have Monday off, because I know I will really be needing some sleep!

Yesterday I decided to go down to Rim Rock for the roping practice Judy Robinson puts on. With the help of Kyia [Former RRR princess] we both arrived to the site of hail. I love central oregon weather. I’ve realized that these practices are a GREAT way for people to learn to rope and get comfortable doing so. I can rope pretty good on the ground, but riding a horse puts a little bit of challenge to it. So if any of you are thinking about learning to rope, this is an excellent place to do so. Plus the fact that Judy Robinson is a very good teacher. I always know I can ask her for help. Thanks Judy!

I’d also like to thank all of you that have been attending the Playdays! Playdays are a lot of fun, and you never know when you’ll be winning some chocolate roses. This is a great place to have fun, and I hope that whenever someone talks about rim rock that it is always a good comment.

Well, I better get going.

Thanks!

-Cheyenne.

Hello!

Filed under: Notes from the Princesses — Cheyenne @ 7:34 pm

Hello!  I’m Cheyenne, for those of you that don’t know me personally, continue reading.

I’m 17 years young, with two awesome parents.  You probably know them as Donna Olsen and Travis Hatfield.  The crazy lady on the big sorrel quarter horse at every barrel race and the crazy guy on a blonde quarter horse at every Cascade Cattle Club event!  That’s just the begining of people who support me.  There’s also Cynthia, who married my dad 8 or 9 years ago.

Where do I start from here?

I grew up on horses. The first one I had was a bay quarter horse gelding, whom I named “Mr. Dot”.  From then on I pestered my parents for horses here and there.  The first horse I rode at the old O.B Riley facility was ‘Pete’.  Old members remember him as the little paint pony.

Then came ‘Dandy’, the best horse I’ll ever own.  That’s a fact. Dandy took me through so many lessons.  He taught me respect and love for the sport.  I will never forget the day my mom asked me if I would let a 5yr old boy ride him for the events at a playday.  Let me remind you, this is the red roan I rode, the one that absolutely LOVED running. He’d get so excited, the only place to put it was in those spotted legs of his. Of course, I raised an eyebrow and said..”Um..no”.  Eventually she talked me into letting him come out for some practice rides. We saddled up and walked around together in the field for hours.  Then she talked me into letting him try and ride at the next playday.  I responded “Um..No!”, but you know how that is.  The day of the playday comes & I was sure that something terrible was going to happen.   Soon they announced “Buckaroos, please be ready for barrels!”… I was terrified. “Wyatt & Dandy you’re on deck”… near panic by now.  ”Wyatt, you’re in the hole.”…This isn’t going to be good.  “Wyatt, you’re up”…straight to the finish line, and I swear Dandy was just about to fall asleep.  I thought to myself ‘This isn’t going to be so bad..He’s not even awake!’. Then came the ultimate test, is he going to be okay? That horse had me fooled. Wyatt couldn’t even get Dandy to trot! Dandy refused.  Suzy Page, was the back up timer for this event also became the part time ‘clod thrower’.  Dandy would go so slow that Suzy would reach down and grab the closest clod and chuck it in his general direction.  I lost Dandy about 3 years ago.  Our vet, who just happens to be my uncle, suspected that he was about 33 at the time he died. He took me where no one else could, and I’ll always be missing my Dandy boy.

Jack is a blood bay Appendix quarter horse.  This is the horse I’m riding to represent Rim Rock this year.  My uncle gave him to me when Jack was 5.  Soon after he injured his back legs and was out for a year.  I started riding him when he was 6, Jack is now 8.  He’s an amazing horse, and I’m proud to say that I’ve worked very hard on him!  I’ll admit, he’s a goofy horse, but I’ll never get rid of this boy!
I’m currently riding for Mt View High School’s Equestrian Team, which Mackenzie also rides for.  I’m involved in riding with Cascade Cattle Club.  Have I told you that horses are my life?  If I am not at home or at school, I’m usually out riding.
Now that i’ve written a shortl novel, I just want to say how proud I am of Rim Rock!  We have a very nice facility that I hope helps us grow even more!  I’ve grown up with a lot of you and I hope I meet a lot more horse lovers like myself!  Remember to keep checking our blog, I’ll try and update twice a week.

Thanks for reading!

Hello

Filed under: Notes from the Princesses — Mackenzie @ 12:29 pm

Hello all Rim Rock Riders!

I can’t express how excited I am to have the opportunity to represent a club such as this. I remember when I rode at Rim Rock back when it was a little outdoor arena that had the occasional pond of standing water taking up a portion of the arena. Now that we have this big new shiny facility it doesn’t look anything like our old arena to the naked eye. However, any stranger could walk onto the mezzanine when any of our many activities are in progress and instantly feel the sense of comradery, of good sportsmanship, and of family. All the things our old arena had, but in a bigger, indoor version.

I am very proud of our club and how it has grown over the years and I make it my business to represent this club to the best of my ability and I hope to see all of you out there at any of the events over the next year.

Thank you

Princess Mackenzie

Hello everyone!

 Princess Barrel races

The barrel races have been alot of fun! But we need more people to show up! Please Please, if you haven’t gotten out here yet give it a try it will be lots of fun! Can’t wait to see you! ;]

 Winter Playdays!

The winter playday series is super fun, so if you haven’t had the chance to come to one yet you should really try to get out here! The turn out for the playdays has been so great, i’m really happy to see everyone out riding, especially in the chilly weather we’ve been getting so much of lately.  Invite as many friends as you can, the more the merrier! :]

Team Penning and Sorting

The winter pennings/sorting are CCC events held at RRR & I’ve only been able to make it out to one of the sortings, but was it fun! Tons of people showed up and the place was packed! If you’ve never penned or sorted don’t be afraid to come out and give it a try. There are always people that have done it before willing to help you out. Trust me, it won’t be a waste of your time! And if it’s cold out, bundle up and buy a hot Chocolate form the Pony Expresso to keep you warm. P.S. if you are planning to come and take part in this event don’t forget to call in for cows so we have enough for everyone.

I haven’t made it to any ropings or trail rides so if you would like me to add something in here about those events, go ahead and E-mail me @ Durfee@RimRockRiders.com and I’d be happy to let everyone know about it! :]

If I’m forgetting any events that are going on right now please let me know I’d love you add them on for ya!

Can’t wait to see you at the next event! :]
